Can anybody tell me how to boot up in dos 7.10 in windows 98 version 1. I think it is possible to use the F4 key when windows is booting up and windows will give you a choice of dos or windows. I tried this but it dosen't work. How do you set up windows to do this?

Hi,
With F4 key you can boot old DOS version (for example DOS 6.22) which was installed on HDD previous to Win98. But it's only possible if you still have FAT16 on your HDD.
DOS 7.10 is the version come with Win98. To boot DOS 7.10 hold Ctrl key while booting to get into boot menu and then select Command Prompt Only.
Good luck, Igor M

You can also use F8 instead of ctrl.
To have your computer always boot to dos edit your msdos.sys file and change the line BootGUI=1 to BootGUI=0. This is a read only hidden system file usually in the route of your c: drive. So in dos type
"attrib msdos.sys -h -s -r" so you can edit it. Then type "edit msdos.sys", change the line then save and exit.
By the way this is more of a Windows question and would have been better placed there instead of in the DOS forum. Actually when I go and look in the Windows forum you'll probably have posted there as well.
