how to activ my NIC under MS-DOS

my network carte is off when a turn the pc in MS-DOS,i want to know how can i install my NIC or what should i do to keep the PC in network even if i turn it in MS-DOS completly. if you need more informations please ask me. thank you for your help.
If you are using TCP/IP you either need a Packet Driver or NDIS2 Driver, the former is loaded thru 'autoexec.bat' file with the switches applicable to the software it is used with. The latter is integral to the Software like M$ NWC3 or LanMan. Novell need specific IPX/SX drivers as do Token Ring adapters. All drivers should be supplied from the manufacturer of the card!
I am trying to install the 8139 DOS driver to my dos-only machine. In spite of repeated experiment, I have no success. My machine cannot ping itself and reply ping from others, it looks like the TSR is not working.
Could anyone help?
