I'm attempting to add a slave drive to my system. I am not sure how to use BIOS. Sometimes it comes up but asks for a diskette. I just need to get past the point of recognizing it. It seems to detect it but gives me two choices: 1)cont..then ask for a diskette, 2) Displays a list of options...none of which offer a detection.
Two questions: 1. CAN I MANUALLY ACCESS BIOS AND 2) WHAT DO I DO ONCE I GET THERE! Can anyone help! Thanx

on the back of the hard disk, there will be a series of jumper blocks. These determine the master / slave status of the drive.Make sure that the drive is set to slave, and connect it to the same cable as your primary HDD.
Next, go into the BIOS. This is usually entered by pressing either the DEL, F1 F2 or ESC keys during the PowerOn Self Test (it should say what to press when you turn it on).
Once inside, look for the hard-disk detection page (basic or Standard CMOS settings) and set the type to AUTO.
Reboot and voila!

You donot say which PC you have. Some such as the IBM PS Series need a Setup Diskette. Others have a key combination such as CTRL-DEL

Okay, I got BIOS up but went to Hard Drive selection and not sure which option in there to select. Has "primary slave" and "secondary slave". How do I detect? Auto is highlighted but it doesn't seem to be registering. I have the jumper on the second slot next to the primary spot, and I have the cable connected to the primary HDD, and the ribbon connected on the motherboard where my CD Rom was. Don't know where to connect my CD Rom ribbon. Did I do this wrong?
