xp is an nt based operating system, it has no dos, you won't be able to install dos on xp.

You could use an emulator like vmware. If you have a Pentium II @266 Mhz, you may install it.
VMWare makes an image (virtual disk) where you may install any operating system (dos, linux, bsd, win9x,...).
Search with google for vmware and you shall find a lot of information about it. I've done it at home and it just works fine, even windows 3.11 and OS/2.

Go to a thrift store and get an OLD COMPUTER for about 20damdollars that you can run DOS on

Partition your HD and figure out how to configure a boot manager so you can dual boot with XP and DOS.

AND QUIT ASKING XP questions IN THIS FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XP is NOT DOS. It is an NT based system. Go ask there, in t he NT/ or XP forum!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like it was a dos question that also involved XP. That is, it seems more likely that people in this forum would know (since most people have windows experience) than people in the XP forum who probably largely know nothing of dos (maybe some of them just know it as the command prompt).

Asking in the DOS forum was a good idea.
The problem is that a lot of people here do not have Windows XP including me. What is the problem? If you can type COMMAND in the run box, you have a Windows based DOS prompt. Hold alt and press enter for a full screen. What would you need real mode DOS for? Is it need of a CONFIG.SYS as was the case in Windows ME? The Command prompt in Windows will run almost everything DOS.

First I must say the majority of people who post to this board are not very helpful. They seem to think that flamming people is a constructive way to help others. In my book these kind of people are the first to go when I have to choose who to layoff or terminate.

The quickest way to do the flash is to use a dos boot floppy. If you do not have one just search google for dos boot image for many sites that have them available for download. You can then create a boot floppy that you can run the dvd flash program from. One such site is http://www.putergeek.com/downloads/

Answer: Boot from a bootable floppydisk, flash your DVD remove floppy and reboot again. Done!

Seems like this forum is populated by two types of people:

1) Those who care about others and are willing to share their useful knowledge in a helpful way. I salute you. Karma goes around.

2) Those who get their self-esteem from making others feel small just because they happen to know a little bit more than the person who needs help. There's hundreds of people like you in I.T. unfortunately. Did you never have any issues you needed help with? Did you get help or did you just get put down by your peers? Hey! thrive on that malevolence dudes. Hope it chokes ya
