In DOS6.xx and compatible DOS versions, usually the printer driver is part of the application software.
Parallel Printers will usually print in B&W only, though older models by Epson etc do have DOS Drivers available to take full advantage of the capibilities of the printer.
In standalone DOS USB Printers are not supported...........
The driver is usually installed into the application. What program are you using and what printer are you trying to install?

If the printer has a serial interface, you have to add two MODE statements to autoexec.bat.
a) to move prn from the parallel port
b) to set speed etc.Other than that control of the printer is via drivers etc. is with each application, including w3.1
Good luck - Keep us posted.

I use WordPerfect 5.1 for dos. In setup within wordperfect it will ask you what printer you are using and you choose yours (or one close to it) from a very large list of printer drivers within Wordperfect. After picking your driver, it will prompt you for diskettes to install the driver and afterwards your printer will work.

<liam42> Before you go any further...
What printer do you have?Since you state MS-DOS 6.22 & Windows 3.11
You want a 16bit Windows Printer Driver
for Windows Programs. You only need a DOS Printer Driver for DOS Programs.
Even if it is a newer modal,
It may have a Win3x Compatable Driver.
For example HP DeskJet 520 Colour will drive newer (Parallel) HP versions.PowerLoad Home Page
