I need to delete a file vmm.vxd in the c:\windows\system\vmm32
What is the process, I have already copied it to disk. It's in a Win 98 ed.1

del [filename]
At any dos prompt type
"del c:\windows\system\vmm32\[filename].vxd"You may have to remove the system file tag first if so browse to c:\windows\command and type
"attrib -s -h -r c:\windows\system\vmm32\[filename].vxd"without the quotation marks

Easy question:
How do I open a DOS prompt? I have a downloaded file with an invalid, superlong name that cannot be deleted or moved by conventional means. right clicking on the file doesn't work. I read in archived comments how one should go into DOS and fix it but that advice was not intended for dumb people.

For banky;
___________________________________________________________________
Note where the file is located, ie; c:\Program Files\Annoying File Directory\filename.ext as an example.Shut down, restart in dos mode or shut down and reboot holding down F8 or Ctrl during the boot process. The latter will give you the Start Up Menu. Choose Command Prompt Only.
Navigate to the directory in question, ie; cd progra~1\annoyi~1.
Once there, type in;
dir/a/w/pNote how the file is displayed. ie; for annoyinglongfilename.xxx it will be: annoyi~1.xxx.
Then type deltree annoyi~1.xxx
When prompted for confirmation of the delete, type Y.

at the command prompt. Example c:\>DEL you wish to delete! or go to Dos help for more tips and ......!!!!!

Correction: At the command prompt (example a:\>) type DELand type the file you wish to delete including the extension!!!
or go to dos help DOS.hlp find this filename!!! it a very old program!!! more tips and t***ks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
