hi, i had a problem upgrading my windows 2000 to xp pro and now my computer boots up into the xp pro install screen. i can no longer access windows 2000 or any of my files at all. when my computer starts up, how can i go into dos mode so that i can format my c drive. i tried using a msdos startup disk that i made on my other computer, but it does not let me access my c drive or any drive for that matter. i also can not perform any commands at all. i just want to know if there is anythign i can possibly to salvage my computer before college semester #3 begins.......

You don't access any partitions because you probably have ntfs ones.Use a Windows ME boot disk and delete all dos and non-dos partitions you will find. You can view those partitions by typing fdisk at the dos prompt(Always say yes to large size partitions management here, also named LBA) and choose number 4 to inspect the partitions.Partitions are deleted from logical to extended to primary depending if they are present or not.You then create the partition(s) you need and you will have to reboot the computer before you format them. You must have at least one primary C partition set active. If you make more than one it will then(after the primary is done) be first extended and then logical(one or more again).Install the OS after the format is completed.Depending on hard drive size you can run Win XP on FAT 32 without problems.Good luck.
