I obtained a Toshiba T1200 Laptop which has either a 8088 or 8086 processor@ 4.77(unturbo) / 9 Mhz(turbo), 640KB of RAM and a 20 MB harddrive. I have DOS 4 and WP 5.1 running on it fine, I just have a question. Without disassembling it how can I tell if it is an 8088 or an 8086? And was the chip made by Intel or AMD(I belive the XT has an AMD chip)

Try msd.exe that comes with newer versions of DOS like 6.22 Microsoft Diagnostics (MSD) will reveal basic information about the different components in your computer including CPU (although not always).
If you need MSD.exe, e-mail me and I'll be glad to send it to you.
You might also try this program: ftp://ftp.cyf-kr.edu.pl/pub/mirror/Simtel.Net/msdos/sysutl/cpuid593.zip
This version of CPU-ID supposedly will identify 8088 and 8086 chips. You can see the description for it here: http://www.cyf-kr.edu.pl/ftp/simtel/simtel_sysutl.html
