I need DOS 6.0 so that I can install it onto my laptop. I'm trying to get Windows 95 back onto it but my laptop has interchangeable floppy drives and CD roms in the same port. When I try to use the CD rom, it doesn't recognize it since it's been formatted. I need DOS 6 so I can at least use the operating system and thereby install cd rom drivers. I tried changing the boot sequence but the laptop won't recognize the cd rom, no matter what sequence I use.

How do you format a CD-ROM? No! get a boot disk with CD-ROM access from bootdisk.com .Choose Win 95 type ,put CD for Windows in the drive and try to install Windows. At dos prompt D: Enter SETUP Enter Unless you have a copy of WIN 95 that allowed dual boot, it will be difficult to boot dos 6.0 or Win95 on your laptop.

He means that the hard drive has been formatted, thereby not recognizing the CD. I "borrowed" this from the Win9x forum. I don't think Krystyna will mind. (Helloooo Krystyna!)

Subject: How to make a blank hard d look after cd

CDROM Drivers on Laptop with swappable CDROM / Floppy

1. To make the hard drive bootable, start up with a boot floppy and
at A:\ prompt, type FORMAT C: /S
If the hard drive is already formatted, type SYS C:
2. Copy these four files to the C: drive
a. mscdex.exe
b. atapicd.sys ( or your own specific cdrom driver )
c. autoexec.bat
d. config.sys

3. AUTOEXEC.BAT needs only this line
C:\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001

4. CONFIG.SYS needs only this line
DEVICE=C:\ATAPICD.SYS /D:MSCD001

5. Mscdex.exe and atapicd.sys are on the Win 98 boot floppy disk

6. Autoexec.bat and Config.sys can be edited using Notepad...if using a different cdrom driver to atapicd.sys, then edit the Config.sys file accordingly

7. When you boot up with the cdrom pack in place, the cd drivers will be accessed from the hard drive, and your cdrom will be D: drive
