i was wondering were can i find MS-DOS 6.22 upgrade i have a computer with dos 5.0 and i tried upgrading it with dos 6.22 and it wont let me it says to find the upgrade were could i find it

Usually dos 6.22 is on three fdds.
If you have the set for a new computer, this is not an 'upgrade' but a 'new' installation, and care should be taken, as sometimes part of the installation procedure is to format the hdd which wipes any info already there.
The way I would upgrade is:-
a) boot from a floppy with v6.22.
b) enter SYS C: which copies the hidden files and COMMAND.COM to the hdd.
c) copy all the dos files (not batch files etc.) from the fdd's into the DOS directory, having first secured the previous dos version and then emptied the directory.d) run MEMMAKER
Good luck - keep us posted

The DOS files on a MS-DOS Install Disk Set are compressed and woyld need to be expanded one by one if you just try to copy them over.
When you run MS-DOS 6.22 Setup (Full Install) on an exsisting DOS Harddrive, While it tells you to use a Upgrade Set, It should also give you the option of over-installing as well? If it does it will replace v5 with 6.22 for you.

If my memory is still intact, perhaps I can help:
DOS 5.0 was replaced by DOS 6.0
DOS 6.0 did not work and M$ replaced it with DOS 6.20.
DOS 6.22 was published; not as an "upgrade".
A two disk set was then published as an upgrade from DOS 6.0/6.20 to DOS 6.22.In other words it took 'em two tries to go from ver5 to ver6
I think this info is correct.
At this time either ver5.0 or 6.22 should be purchased. Nothing in between. DOS is cheap on auction sites and at computer shows.
Skip

i copied the command.com and some other files in it now everytime it starts it just says cannot open incorrect version of dos now what do i do?

As advised above, you should use the SYS command to copy the system files over.
Did you do this?
Then before attempting anything else, copy over the rest of the dos files into an empty DOS directory.
However noting Mick C's advice above (thanks!). I would continue working from the same boot floppy, and copy the rest of the dos v6.22 files from another pc, by using pkzip.
On a different tack, would it not be easier to try and obtain a upgrade set? They must be out there. Maybe one of your friends has one.
Good luck - keep us posted.

1. Look for the option in bios to boot A/C
A drive first, C Drive second.2. Check the installation of your floppy drive or replace it with a new one.
3. Make sure you are using a bootable floppy.
