I'm desperately trying to get my windows 98 to work, so I'm in dos now trying to copy files I need to another drive. I want to copy my entire C drive to my D drive, so I can format the C drive and reinstall windows 98 over it and still keep the files that are on it. My computer says that xcopy is a bad command for file name. What can I do?!

Try just putting a copy of xcopy.exe over on the root of the D: drive.
That might do the trick.

Ok, I copied a few xcopy files over, and that seems to have worked, but now it won't accept the command: xcopy c:\*.*/a/e/k it gives me the error: invalid switch - - /k what am I typing incorrectly?

never mind that last thing.. I guess /k isn't one of the options :P so to copy a whole hard drive on to another, the command would probably be something like: xcopy c:\*.*/s/e/v ?

You are just making hard work for yourself. You do not need to format in order to install, and no formatting, no need to back up the files.
Just deltree all the Windows directories, that's "windows", "progra~1", and "recycled" (HSD so "attrib recycled -s -h" first). Since you are getting up to 99% of the install procedure done then I don't think that virus protection in BIOS setup is on so that's OK.
