Help! System will not boot to Hard Drive

Comment:
I'm trying to rebuild a 486 that was previously running win 3.11. I'm going to put win 95b on it. I performed fdisk and then format c: /s. After restarting, the system just hangs at the point where it should boot frm c:. If I boot from a floppy however, the c: drive is totally accesible and works fine. I've tried just about every setting in the cmos and I get the same result every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

would it be possible that your hard drive is connected to a controller and not to the mainboard directly? then maybe you'll need a special driver ! If not, verify that the drive is put in MASTER or that the partition you've created is a principal one and that it is activated.

Hi,
First of all run FDISK one more time and make sure your C: primary partition set as active (as d_lagneau said). If not - set it. And then if this not help use
FDISK /MBR
command to restore Master Boot Record on your hard drive.
Good luck, Igor M

Hi,
If you have SYS.COM program on your biit disk just use the command:
SYS C:
to transfer system files to C: drive. If you not have such a program, format C: drive once more time with /S switch:
FORMAT C: /S
This command also transfer system files after formatting.
Good luck, Igor M

Did u run FDISK??????
You need to first delete the primary DOS partition, and then restore it. Trust me, I know....I've done this 5 times in the last month.
