Help: Stuck at invalid system disk prompt when booting, can not get DOS prompt! PLEASE HELP!?!?

Re-building a 486 Gateway, powers up & is stuck at the invalid system disk, replace the disk and then press any key.... I have flashed the bios already, what should I try next? It will not let me to a dos prompt at all. Please help! Thanks a ton! Mike AKA Sammie :-P

Sounds like the floppy you are trying to boot from is not a system disk. visit http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download the system files you need. Be sure to click on the "Installation Instructions" link half way down the page

Hi,
If you're trying to boot from hard drive then check out if you you have properly setup your drive in CMOS. Try to enter CMOS and perform IDE HDD Autodetection, or set drive parameters manually - number of heads, sectors, and cylinders - usually you can find these values marked on hard drive cover.

If you are trying to boot to a floppy, make sure that the disk is bootable and the drive letter is in the "bootup sequence" in the BIOS settings. If you are trying to boot to the hard drive, this means that the hard drive has not been formatted or three is something wrong with the partition table. Boot to a floppy to fdisk and format it.
