...but only if Disk one is a bootable floppy. If you get a "non-system disk" message, you'll need to use the bootdisk.

I guess it all depends on where he got the installation disks.

You have to boot with version 6.22 to install 6.22, so the boot disk should be disk one. I am not sure it HAS to be. To use the boot disk as disk one remove all the files and directories except for COMMAND.COM. Then put the disk one files on it.

As nona suggests... a lot depends on where you d/l ed from. Surely there were instructions?? To install DOS you need to be running DOS (from a floppy) - usu this is done by some executable form of an 'image' file that creates a system disk - it's not the same as copying the files. Try fred's suggestion. To get DOS on your HDD all you need to do is: sys c: after booting from the floppy - the rest of the installation just expands the compressed external DOS commands and sets up the configuration files etc. DOS setup is a convenience, not an absolute necessity.

He needs to write the disk images to the disks with rawrite or something similar, not just unzip them to the disks. :-)

www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/bootdisk.htm has a large range of system bootdisks. Download the 6.22 imamge PLUS the Disk Image Pro for DOS progam to extract files (You can also use WinImage I beleave) onto floopy disk to create bootable diskette.

I can't f'ing beleive the instructions that were given to this poor person!! To install DOS 6.22 all one has to do is insert the disk and wait for instructions! If it doesn't work, you have a corrupt copy. Get another! If it still doesn't work, phone Bill Gates and remind him of the fact that he propogated the worst system that this planet has ever seen, and that if it wasn't for him, we would still see reliable systems that actually did what they stated, and didn't need swarms of support people to actually make the f'ing system work.
