I recently switched my OS from Win98 to XP home. When loading XP I elected to use the recommended update version and kept my files FAT32. Everything loaded and converted over my Win98 files to XP, however, whenever I try to delete, or remove anything to the trash can, I get the following Error deleting file or folder message: "Cannot delete xxxxxxx: cannot find the specified path. Make sure you specify the correct path." It doesn't matter what kind of file it is, I get teh same message. Basically, I can't get rid of anything I add to my computer. I called Microsoft, and I think I got a rookie. We talked for an hour with him suggesting different approaches, me trying them, and them not working. He finally put me on hold and called a Sr. Tech who suggested to him, which he suggested to me that I need a new BIOS. My system consists of a PII 350, 327 megs of RAM, 30 GIG HD with 24 gigs unused, burner, CD ROM, etc. Any help anyone would offer would be greatly appreciated!

I cant see how MS would think that this is a bios issue. I think its a MS issue. Why not reinstall XP convert HD to NTFS. XP likes NTFS a lot maybe this will solve your problem.

Its not a BIOS problem, the XP update sucks, and Micro$oft sucks for telling you its a BIOS problem, Your problem is a common one it has to do with the registry getting screwed up by the update, your registry goes poof and your files are no longer recognized as exsisting.

I beleive there is a patch for this, you'd have to search the MS site to see if this is so, but then again there probly isnt one (yet) because ive heard of this problem alot still.

I use just about every latest Micro$oft OS at work day in and day out, and personally i think your making a mistake changing from Win98 to XP (but to each his or her own)
the WinXP and Win2000NT machines give everyone nothing but trouble day in and day out and just about everyone with common sense has decided to stick with Win98SE.

Like i said to (each his or her own), but idefinately think from what ive seen that Win98SE is currently the best Micro$oft OS version out there right now.

My 2 cents

What ive heard works to get WinXP to operate properly is to do a full installtion, so your gonna have to back your stuff up and reinstall a full install.

(My opinion, i dont think this is a bug, but instead a way Micro$oft has come up with to stick you with the XP OS like it or not, i mean if you dont have a way to reinstall Win98 and you run XP and screw your system up, your stuck with no choice but to do a full install of XP)

yeah i said (Micro$oft and no choice) in the same sentence LoL! isnt it ironic :)~

if you still care, this is how i was able to delete files that w2k could not delete:

1. install cygwin (UNIX environment, developed by Red Hat, for Windows) from http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/

2. start cygwin by clicking on the icon.
the console you see is a bash shell.
type:
cd c: (to go to the root of the drive)
cd /your/folder
rm -rf

worked for me
