Hi guys, i recently installed dos 6.22 on a 4gb hard drive, it automatically partitioned the drive to 2gbs as I expected, however I've decided to try a different OS on the same drive now and I find that no matter which type of bootdisk I use(win98,ME ect...) it thinks the drive is only 2gb instead of 4, I cant seem to get a full format, I can format, but it only formats to 2gb, any suggestions?

Naturally

You have to remove the old FAT16 partition and then repartition the disk as FAT32, using a Win98 or WinME bootdisk, with that fdisk

(then format)

On an OS level [forget LLF] you don't format a whole physical drive, you format a partition. So if the partition is 2GB, that's what you get.

Until you get the concepts down, you can save plenty of time and frustration by not mixing and matching OS versions.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

First you really need to wipe the drive. A simple way to try getting rid of problems is to boot from a w98 floppy boot disk and type fdisk /mbr at a command prompt.
Make sure there are no other drives in the PC at the time
Then if fdisk will not see it properly, use killdisk and finally try hard disk regenerator.
It is still a bad idea to install DOS 6.22 on a 20 gig disk. Even if you create a 2 gig partition, it still wastes a lot of space due to the large cluster size.

Solution: Use the DOS from Windows 98. It does everything except defrag and is happy with any partition size on your 20 gig drive.
