HOW DO YOU GET A COMPUTER TO RECOGNISE A NEW HD? MY COMPUTER WILL RECOGNIZE IT IN THE BIOS BUT HOW DO I ASSIGN A DRIVE LETTER? I WAS TRYING TO PUT IT ON MY OLD E-MACHINE THAT I AM REBUILDING BUT WHEN I TRY AND LOAD WINDOWS IT DOESNT RECOGNISE ANY DRIVE TO INSTALL IN. SO I TRIED TO FORMAT IT ON MY NEW COMPUTER BUT I CANT. WHEN I SET IT UP AS SECONDARY MASTER WINDOWS WONT DETECT IT. IF I PUT MY CURRENT HD FROM MY NEW COMPUTER INTO MY E-MACHINE IT SEES IT BUT IT WONT SEE THE OTHER ONE. WHAT DO I DO?!

Did you fdisk & format it on the emachine? Also check that the jumpers are set correctly (slave or master)

if its a brand new hard drive you should have a floppy disk with utils that came with it.if you dont have a util disk go to the manufacturer site and download the utils.e.g ez install,data lifeguard tools,disk manager,once setup can be used on any computer.
