I am upgrading a hard drive on an older pentium. I cannot reformat the disk to a larger size than 524Mb . I understand there are a few solutions. Can anyone help me please.

Hi,
This limit usually is connected with LBA mode. In normal mode of operation you can't use the drive with more then 1024 cylinders. If your drive has more then 1024 cyls you need to enable LBA mode for it in BIOS. If your BIOS give you an option of LBA mode after HDD autodetection just select it. If not, have a look in another section of BIOS (usually Advanced Settings) and enable LBA mode for IDE controller. If your BIOS not have LBA mode at all then you need to use some special driver like EZDrive to use full capacity of your drive.
Good luck, Igor M

Thank you Igor M. I enabled my IDE LBA translation in the CMOS setup but the computer hung up! One additional clue is that when I reformatted the C drive the maximum space allowed was 524M. When I view the CMOS setup it shows the full 1000+M available.

Enabling the LBA mode you need to repartition and reformat your drive. If you not did that the computer can hang up while booting.
