Help! I'm trying to install a hard drive. The CMOS find the drive and correctly determines the parameters, but when I get into DOS or Windows the drive does not show up. Am I missing something?

Hi What if you run "fdisk" from a bootable floppy, do you see your drive then. If the drive is new, maybe you have to set a partition and then format the drive.

I have a similar problem with my hard disk. I recently reformated the hard disk and want to install MS-DOS 5.0. However, when I boot the computer with the boot disk and try to install the software, the PC can't find the C: drive.
I have tried to set a partition using Fdisk and also have tried to set things up in the CMOS, but I have had no success.
Can you suggest a solution?

do you have a 486 or pent? how big is the hard drive and what are the numbers for it. cyl? sec? tracks? what is name of the bios chip? do you have an ide hdd auto dectection mode in setup? did you fdisk the drive correctly? you must set a partion active or the drive will not be bootable. alot of people miss that. you must reboot after setting the partion active. then you must format with format c:/s
you must use the s switch or the drive will not boot.
if all of this fails then send me the drive and I will look at it for you.
