I have a compaq presario 7232. I'm trying to add a 7 gig additional hard drive. Got it to work but had major problems in the process. I'm now attempting to use quick restore CD to reload all my original software to the original 1.6 gig hard disk. I got it to restore once then tried to add the new hard drive. It recogized the new drive, I saved the changes, rebooted to Max Blast diskette to format the new drive. Next time rebooting I got 'Missing Operating System'. After many attempts to find/correct, I ended up reformatting c drive. It seems to think most of the hard drive has bad sectors now. It won't restore the software. I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Is your new drive the slave or the master? Make sure the jumpers are correct and make sure the CMOS settings are also correct. Use autodetect to make sure configurations are correct. What version of DOS are you using to format c? Try to use DOS 5 or better. Remember to use partitions for large drives. You may also have to do a low level format to "remove" or block any bad sectors. Good luck!

Installing a 4.2 gb hardisk as a slave to a 249mb hardisk.
Problem. The bios detects the new slave but dos and windows does not recognize it as a D drive.Apparently when the 4.2 gb is installed alone it is detected

I also have a compaq 7232 - tried to upgrade
hard disk - found out late that you can't do that ..that you can only slave drive it...
question is how ..I've tried everything
Yes used setup-disk/& fdisk also tried to debug the bios ..used windows add new hardware -p&p / used jumper to slave and tried cable setting as well but now luck..
the drive is found by my pc and configured to the right size until i boot to dos or windows 95/ on this pc...shows that the drive is only 508 mgs in fdisk to partation
and in windows file man..a as 508 mgs as well
but when compaq setup disk is used and i get info the drive is stated to be 4.3Gs
..the drive letter does not show up in ither dos / or windows ... the systems setup for the cmos is also setup correctyl including
type / heads and cyl and ecc...
all correct and reporst the drive to be 4.3 Gbs/
what can i do to (1) increase the drive space to it correct size ? and how cand i get the drive to show up in windows 95 file menu and to report the correct size in both dos and windows?
