Before I tried to install Windows 98 again, my hard disk could not format. While formatting,I got the message "Try to recover allocation unit 10,910", the number increased for a while and then format could not continue. I tried to use DOS 6.22 to format it and partinion it again, formatting still could not continue and I got the same messages. Have my hard disk crashed?

It's pretty doubtful that your hdd crasded... most problems like this are partition related. Copy and paste the text below the line into notepad or any text editor. Save it as killhdd.bat and put it on the floppy disk you have been booting off of. (DEBUG.exe must also be on the disk) Run killhdd.bat with caution as it will delete any and all information on the current hard drive. Run the program on your damaged hard drive. Be sure to reboot after running it, and then partition the disk. If you have any problems after this, here is something physically wrong with the disk and it is best just to replace it. Here's the program.

IF NOT EXIST %0 GOTO ERROR
DEBUG <%0
ECHO SUCCESS!
GOTO EXIT

;REPLACE 0080 WITH 0081 IF YOU

:ERROR
ECHO YOU MUST TYPE THE FULL FILE NAME (KILLHDD.BAT) TO EXECUTE.
