I just got a computer with Windows 98 on it. A friend of mine had the computer built so I have no idea what type of computer it is. I formatted the hard drive so that I could install my own Windows 95 software on it (CDrom software). Now I am in DOS and I cannot get it to set the CDrom as the active drive. Could the cdrom be broken? It also now says "Remove disk or other media" when I boot the computer up even when it's the boot up disk in the a: drive. What can I do to get Win95 installed on this computer!?!

If the bios is unable to 'see' cd roms, you have to load a driver (mscdex) to do so.

This is done with config.sys and then 'used' with autoexec.bat.

I would ask why you want to replace w98 with w95 which is a step backwards.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
