Screen is totally garbled when i start my computer. It is normal once windows starts. I think this has something to do with screen resolution but who knows . not me. im using windows 2000 and have an ATI card. If anyone knows how to fix this problem i will forever be in their dept

Nothing at all to do with DOS I'm afraid (how could it be?) - the Hardware Forum might be a more productive place to enquire
I'm not insensitive, I just don't care.

I hate to say it, but it's probably your card..i've had *endless* problems with ATI cards, especially with artifacts and 'garbles"..with the garbling before windows loads,i would guess that the part of the card's chip that deals with base video is either corrupted, or there's an incompatibility..
Do you happen to know if anyone's ever flashed the bios on the card's chip?..that can do it if it wasn't done exactly right..if it hasn't had a flash (bios upgrade) and you bought it new it might still be under warranty..that's *not* acceptable behavior for any card..
What model is it, anyways? My experiences with bad cards were 32 and 64 meg Radeons..but i would think a P4 would have a newer card than that..
And yeah, (for future reference) this isn't really the appropriate forum..but as i had so many probs myself with those cards....Obviously, i think i believe you think i said what you want to believe, but i think you didn't believe what i think i really said...

thanks for the replies
It is a Radeon 9700 Pro I think. My dad bought the computer from some guy through ebay so if the card is done i guess we are screwed. I have know idea what flashing the the bios is lol. The reason i think the problem has to do with resolution because with certain games (most games) that are in fullscreen mode the screen is totally garbled not unlike how the screen is during startup. After i blindly change the resolution the screen is usually garbled in a different way or i got lucky. Its pretty annoying
hello

Regardless (tho' not to harp on it) I can't see why you chose to post this in the DOS forum.
Sure, someone here might be able to advise you, but this is a decidedly low traffic forum - your post would get more exposure in General Hardware.
If you do decide to do a BIOS flash - sure, that can accomplished from a DOS bootdisk - but that's a whole 'nother question, and likewise could be equally well handled elsewhere
