Hi,

Almost all DOS games work fine in DOS box under Windows 95. And those few that refuse to run in DOS box under Windows you can run in MS-DOS emulation mode.

As for Windows games, they never would run under DOS.

Good luck, Igor M

I am having the same problem with my win95 and DOS. I keep getting the message that I need a memory manager like emm386. When I try to install emm386, I am told that there is no driver installed. How do I fix that?

Hi,

Emm386 driver serves for 2 puproses. To emulate EMS memory and to create Upper Memory Block (UMB). The last usually serves to free more conventional mempry.

As I see from your post your DOS program most probably need EMS memory. In that case you need to install Emm386 driver either with RAM switch, or without switches at all. For example:

Device=C:\Windows\Emm386.exe Ram

Installing Emm386 with NOEMS switch will disable ESM memory.

On the other hand Win95/98 don't need Emm386 driver to emulate EMS. In Win95/98 you need to install Emm386 only if you want to free more conventional memory. If you have enough of free conventional memory and you run your DOS program in DOS box under Windows, create shortcut for the program and on the Memory tab of shortcut properties set EMS memory to Auto.

Good luck, Igor M

I think you can install Windows 95 on it if it has enough resources. To work acceptedly Windows 95 need at least 486 CPU and 8 meg of memory. If your Zenith is better then that you can install Win95. As about the way, you can install it from 3.5" diskettes or from CD if your laptop has CD-ROM drive.

If you not have Win95 on diskettes or your laptop not have CD-ROM, you can do the next:

1. Create some directory on your hard drive (for example CABS)

2. Copy content of WIN95 directory of Windows CD on diskettes on another computer with CD-ROM drive.

3. Copy content of WIN95 directory of Windows CD from diskettes into directory you created on Step 1.

4. Enter this directory with Win95 installation files on your HDD and run SETUP.exe.

Good luck, Igor M
