hey gang, i am having trouble installing 6.22. i have the three disk images loaded onto floppies, but when setup begins it informs that it cannot install while an older version is present, and that i should obtain the upgrade disk.
as far as i can tell, there IS no dos installed anywhere. my hard disk was just formatted with /u /s, so the only thing on there is command.com. and of course i am booting with the dos setup disk 1, so where is this version of dos it is complaining about? any ideas? or can anyone provide the 6.22 upgrade image?

You need to format it without the /s switch. If command.com is on there then DOS will think it found a previous version. Make sure the hard disk is completely clean with no system files.

Bypass all remarks till you get to a:\ prompt type FORMAT C:\ and press enter
Switch off PC and boot with Install Disk 1
and you should now be able to carry out a clean install. As you have disk images. Insure that all 3 disks have the correct Disk Label
DISK 1 Thats DISK followed by 6 spaces then 1 using all 11 spaces of the Disk Label
and DISK 2 & 3 for the other 2 in the same way.

Happy Helper forgot to mention 1 thing. . .
1) when you see the "starting ms-dos"
line appear, press , and n to
everything.

Do a clean install, start with format c: /q/u after you boot first disk of install and press F3 twice to go to dos prompt. Visit a fine site at this link.

hi all, so then there is absolutely no way to install dos 6.22 without the format? (ignoring the stepup, which only seems to include stepups from other 6.XX versions, and mine is a far older version)
i have so many old games packed onto this thing i really don't want to put them all back onto floppy that would take forever
thanks
