I noticed some old posts asking if FreeGEM was still going, and some answers suggesting that the project to expand the original GEM GUI was dead. It's not at all dead, and recently we've released a lot of stuff.
Right now the major event with FreeGEM is the release of OpenGEM, a distribution that includes all the major parts of FreeGEM, and all the GEM applications in one tiny package. It's currently at version 1.2, and can be downloaded for free from http://gem.shaneland.co.uk
