You mean how to make the drive bootable after formatting, right? It's done by booting from a floppy and using the command sys c:

What you probably saw is FORMAT C: /s. I can't verify from personal knowledge that it ends up at C:\> but it well may.

The commands for format of a HDD

Format c:
a std format on a HDD

Format c:/s
a std format that places the boot up files on the HDD

Format c:/q
if the HDD has been previously formated this option clears the FAT Table and is a quick format option.

Format c: /u
a Unconditional format

You can also use the switches together

Format c: /q /u /s
A quick unconditional format with system files

hope it helps

If you are going to use above commands in combination use only

FORMAT C: /U/S

since unconditional format resets to FAT anyway and why use /Q when /U overrides the command anywhy?
