I was recently formatting my hard drive and i deleted the primary partition. I went to reboot it and the msg came up again 'Press A Key to reboot' this continuosly happened. I decided to re-install DOS 6.22. What should I do now. I want to re-install Windows 95. Do I create a primary partion again? DO I have to still format my c:? How would I go about re-installing Windows 95? I have made a boot disk, so if someone can guide me from there it would be a great help.

To repartition your hdd depends on two things. If the capacity of the drive is less than 2gb there is no need to repartition it. However, if your drive is larger than 2gb, and you plan on installing win 95b you might want to convert to a fat 32 partition, so you would need to partition the drive again and use a win95b boot disk.

You format question is a little unclear. If you have installed dos 6.22 on the hard drive, you should be able to install windows right over it. If however, you only booted with a floppy disk after partitioning the hard drive, then you will need to format the hardrive before you use it.

I assume you are using a win95 cdrom, so you would need to load dos cdrom drivers in order to access the cdrom drive. Most people here suggest going to www.bootdisk.com for a win95 boot disk. From there, just run setup on the win95 cdrom.

It may not be perfect, but hopefully it will get you started in the right direction.

yes Marcello. you need to use FDISK (first rule of life, always include it on a boot/restart disk!) to create a primary partition. You COULD use FAT32 (smaller file clusters, less wasted space) as Ronin says, but I'd then advise setting up a (say) 512Mb C partition for Win95, and a larger (D) for everything else. Of course, you'd need WIn95 950B to do this. Two partitions as outlined is, I think a better option even if they're FAT16, as Win95 O/S has many small files, and you'd have less overall "slack" or wasted space that way.

You know you can't go back to MS-DOS after running Windows 95? Format does not remove part of the boot section files. Well, it can be done, but you need something like the floppy that comes with your hard drive to do the formatting.
Other than that the whole thing is FDISK. Remove all your partitions and reinstall them to whatever size you want. Format and reinstall Windows 95. How to get CD-ROM support is the only problem left. You need some kind of boot disk with ROM support on it.
