Comment: Hi, I have a really old compaq 2200 and I had windows 98 on it. However I wanted to run linux on it instead. So I used the deltree command in DOS and erase Windows. Then I tried to install red had linux on it from a cd. However when I get a signal 7 error and installation stops. I'm new at this and I think I really messed up my computer. My friend tried to fix it and ran format c: in dos and it totally did not even recognize that command. any help would be appreciated. thanks, anne

Reply: (edit)If you have the win98 startup disk or other startup disk you may find format.exe here. If you don't find the file format.exe. You need to install Windows 98 (uff), and later run format from ms-dos. (you will be able to find it in 'c:\windows\command\format.exe'.
