I am soryy you feel some of us are w*****s, but FLAMING is not needed.
I have found a very good tutorial about MSDOS and NT and if you would take time out to read you may find it both informative and helpful. It explains why NT DOS is NOT MS DOS etc.

I've approached the issue from a another point of view on that John's post that might also help clearify things.

Doom's batch file worked in Win2k. COOL! So if Win2K doesn't have Dos, it is sure faking it very well. :-)

Actually it's due to the OS being NT (Win 2000) that it works. There's no way the script from that John's thread could work on DOS.

My take on the issue:
No, Windows NT/Xp/W2k does not have DOS. As secret doom said, it has a command line interpreter, but it's not actually an Operating System. Cmd.exe and command.com under these versions of windows are actually DOS EMULATORS. Why do they run a lot of your DOS programs? Because they are emulators. Windows was designed for backwards compatibility. Hence the reason why NT based windows versions have command prompts. They don't need them (like their non NT based cousins), but it's a luxury to have them. IMHO, people are justified asking questions about command prompt and batch in the DOS forum. Oftentimes (obviously not always) what works under regular DOS will work under the DOS emulators of windows NT. Microsoft designed their emulators to be as compatible as possible.
