When I try to start up this old computer, it reads Floppy disk(s) fail (co). I've tried another floppy drive and I've tried different ribbon cables, but nothing has worked. I can't get to the Dos prompt either. The computer freezes up after the floppy disk message.

The above is right. The bios is the only place you can go if C: won't boot and you get a floppy disk failure message. Once in the BIOS check that DRIVE A is set to 1.44 MB. Also check that the boot sequence is A;C. This is normal and C should have booted, but if you change it to C;A it might boot if you have an operating system on C:. Once you get the floppy drive working decide whether you want the system to try to boot from A: first or not.

I recently had a similar problem with an MSI5145 motherboard. I had changed the CPU from a 133 to a 200, and then I always got the "Floppy Disk(s) Fail (C0)" message, and none of the COM ports worked any more. It turned out that I hadn't set the CPU voltage jumpers properly. Not sure how or why this would effect the Floppy or COM ports, but setting the CPU properly cured it. HTH, Marc.
