OS: DOS 6.22
CPU/Ram: AMD-K6/32Mb

Comment:

My config.sys file has a line FILES=20. How big can FILES
be set to, and what is the penalty for a large number of
files?

Also, MEM repots I have 25 M of unused extended
memory. How can I get some use out of it. My first
thought is to create a large Ram Drive. What is the
penalty for a large Ram Drive ?

If you have 622, you'll have the DOS 'Help' program - - that's what it's for, and fairly comprehensive

The 'penalty' (as always) in having more things loaded, or maxing out settings is the amount of memory used - conventional and/or upper, depending

You are, once again, Microsoft's bitch

You could run memmaker. That will configure your config.sys and autoexec.bat files for more efficient RAM usage.
