Okay, my other post was about getting a USB floppy to work. Instead I got thumbdrives to work. In fact, I went in and made a batch file that upon a choice, will copy all files from a C: directory into the flash making my program files portable. I'm trying to find a batch file that will allow the user to drill into a unique directory prefix "*.ARA", pick thier target program file "*.TRT" and load it into a destination location "C:\TTWORK\???.ARA\. So far I've typed up a list of instructions using ECHO that tells the user how to move a file. It would be sweeter if I had something graphic to use. sort of the icing on the cake kind of deal.

Thanks in advance!!

Something like:

PC Tools
xtreeGold

While you're here, can you show your config & autoexec that handle the USB flash? TIA

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Config.sys:
DEVICE=C:\DOSUSB\USBDISK.SYS

Autoexec.bat:
CD \DOSUSB
DOSUSB.COM

Program is awesome, its DOSUSB written by a fellow called Georg Potthast. He seems to have the latest version of any DOS USB programming I've seen. MHAIRU, DUSE, IOMEGA, USBASPI, none of them worked right or efficiently. His Config.sys sets up the interface and gives it a drive letter and the autoexec initializes the port into RAM. Biff, bam, boom done!

I bought a variance of USB Flash Disk (Thumb Drives). His program supports up to 4gig. The HP v100w, Verbatim Store N' Go and Kingston DataTraveler all worked, whereas the Lexar Secure II plus didn't work. I have yet to receive/test my Transend or Imation models. I can also remove the flashdisk even with DOS running, no crashes, however, I cannot go back into it without a total restart.

Norton used to have a neat gui tool. Darn if I can't remember the name now. I think it was ...Errr, can't remember. Some two letter name I think. Like BE batch enhancer or something like that.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I found XtreeGold 4 on the internet as abandonware. Looks good. I wish I could set macros up for it, but the files they are going to move vary, so they'll have to roll manually. Beats the crap out of taking out the hard-drive and hooking up to a host PC.

Seem to remember (when I used it) that StupenDOS wasn't too bad for a DOS file-management utility (considering it was free). No idea how (or whether) it would work on a USB drive/floppy...
