Hi,
There is a program called azdiffl.zip that will open two text files and compare them.
The file is 4570 bytes.
Below is a copy of the readme file.
I have not yet reviewed the program but if the readme is what you think will solve the problem email me with the name of the zip in the message body and I will be happy to send a copy to you.Note: World Library is not affiliated with and Company for profit or the company below.
AZDIFF version 2.00
===================
Copyright (C) Aztec Research Ltd 1991-6AZDIFF is a DOS program. It can be run from Windows using
the File manager, but it is still a DOS program.AZDIFF compares two ASCII files. These are files that you
can read correctly using the DOS TYPE command. It shows
you the differences between the two files. This is useful
if, say, you have two fairly similar data files or BAT or
program source code files and you want to check how they
differ. There are two text files which are very similar but slightly
different. You can compare them using AZDIFF. This one is
READ.ME and the other is READ.ME2.AZDIFF is a replacement for the major function of the DOS
'FC' command but it is easier to interpret the AZDIFF
output.To operate the program,
1. Make a mental note of the filenames of the two files
you want to compare.2. Enter the command AZDIFF to start the program. There are
no parameters.3. At the prompt, enter the name of one of the files to be
checked.4. Then, at the next prompt, enter the name of the second file.
5. Now wait while the differences are established. A temporary
file TEMP.$$D is created. It will be deleted at the end of the
program.6. The contents of both files are displayed. Where
commonality has been found then the common bits are
displayed in one colour just once. Where differences are
found a second colour is used. Line numbers on the left
and right of the screen clarify to which files the
different bits belong.7. Use the normal up/down/page_up/page_down keys to scan
up and down the display. To scroll quickly to the next
difference press N (downward search) or P (upward
search). Press C to change the colour scheme. Press Q to
quit from the program.8. A summary of the differences will be put in a
printable file called DIFF.OUT. This file is saved when you
quit the program.
This version of AZDIFF is a limited version. It will not
handle very large files and will tell you so. It is,
however, free of charge for unlimited use.Aztec Research Limited retains all copyright on this version,
but you can make copies as long as you don't sell them.If you would like an unlimited version that can handle
really big files, then please send US$30 or UKœ20 or
equivalent in other currencies to:Aztec Research Ltd

Oops........lol!
Would you believe after all that I forgot to answer your question? To bring up the file compare utility on your computer "fc.exe" go into the dos prompt and type fc /? Then hit enter.
This will bring up all the options available. So it's late and I am over tired. Ha!
