FDC failure and Primary HDC failure

I have an older PC that I haven't used for quite awhile and I went to turn it on recently. The problem is, it won't boot and I keep getting two error messages.
FDC failure
Primary HDC failure
They both come up and then the option to continue by hitting any key. It then goes on to say that I need to insert the Boot Disk, of which I have none.
I have a 80486 Deep Green motherboard, the hard drive size is unknown (because it's been so long since I've used it), it's loaded with 16 Meg Ram......etc. I am wondering on how to get this thing running again. Please note that the hard drive is not making any weird noises, and the A: does turn on when I strike any key when I get the prompt to insert the Boot Disk.

I have tried mwssing around in the WinBIOS as well (even though I'm not sure what I'm doing). One weird thing I have noticed is that in the hard disk types, there is no device selected for the primary drive. It will not auto detect the hard disk either.

Also, I have tried all of the other WinBIOS Setup options (original, optimal and fail-safe) to try to get it to load into Dos or Win3.x.

Please Help me. Direct e-mail would be more helpful because I check it more often.

Hi,

What happened to you usually caused by CMOS battery discharge. So you better change CMOS battery first place or you risk to lost BIOS parameters again.

Then in BIOS setup find the option to enable/disable FDC and IDE controllers. Enabled them if they are disabled. I think you will be able to autodetect your HDD after that. And not forget to set proper floppy type in BIOS.

Good luck, Igor M

Failing that you could try "Reset Defaults" in the setup and "Save Changes". This should put the system back to it's original state
