Before DOS loads to windows, I have to hit F1 to continue. I think this might be a CMOS problem, but don't know what could have changed to make it happen. I have had people suggest everything from low battery to wrong time to CMOS being wrong. What do ya'll think?

Do you get any messages? If it were the battery, it would not keep the time/date correct. Does it? It could be a mismatch on the amt of memory, it could be the keyboard is not showing up on boot, but is ok when you press F1, it could be a bad setting in CMOS. Lots of possibilities, need more info.

Usually when I have gotten this message is has been a faulty device that the system is trying to initialize and cannot. In most cases it is a floppy drive that no longer works.

Unless you found out by trial and error that F1 was the only key that allows your system to continue the boot process there must be an accompanying on screen error message. While we're at it *Before* covers a lot of ground, before the video BIOS message, before the memory check, before the hardware reporting, before the starting Windows 98 message etc.
If it's actually telling you, on screen in white on black, to press F1 to continue then 99 times out of a hundred it's ging to be a BIOS problem.
But the EXACT wording of the error message is important.
