Comment: does anyone know of a fat32 file system driver like NTFSDOS from www.sysinternals.com? it would be great if 16 bit dos can at least READ fat32 (without using drdos 7.xx or msdos 7.xx).

Reply: (edit)msdos 7.xx is not complete. i need to run SHARE.EXE which comes with msdos up to 7.0. with 7.10 it was replaced by a .vxd that only works in a windows environment. i do not like using drdos because it does not run all the programs that i like. so i am stuck with msdos 6.22 and pcdos 2000. between the two i prefer pcdos 2000.

Reply: (edit)You can get a copy of SHARE.EXE from www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk which came with Office 4.2/4.3 which works with WinDOS 7.10 Look for it on the Win 3.1 page. Also he has a set of files called OLDDOS which is the main 5x & 6x files left out of version 7x (But not share.exe) As a matter of interest DR-DOS does not come with FAT32 support, and the add-on available is a little shacky to say the least. ...

Reply: (edit)i checked it out and it said it was the same as the one in msdos 6.22 which means it will not work. it will LOAD but it will not work. programs that need it will detect it in memory but the 'file sharing' function of share.exe is still nonfunctional.

Reply: (edit)Well check it out again. I loaded file as per instructions with MS-DOS 7.10 and it works fine for me. I think the statement 'Same as MS-DOS 6.22' is not correct and this is the universal version from Office 4.3 (This file contains SHARE.EXE with a text file as well) Direct Download Link: http://www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/download/share42.exe

Reply: (edit)This post started life asking for a FAT32 driver. Now he wants SHARE.EXE. Come on bundat, just what do you want? You are told you can get a copy of it at powerload, but you are still not happy. maybe the version that came with windows 95 would be more to your liking? If so I will send you a copy.

Reply: (edit)M$ has stopped support for share.exe since win95b (osr2)/msdos 7.10 in exchange for fat32 file system. it was replaced, in windows environment, by a *.VXD. i run a dos based bbs that requires the presence and effects of share.exe but i also want to have a fat32 file system to save space.

Reply: (edit)Yes,it's true.M$ dropped SHARE.EXE in M$-DOS 7.10.If you use SHARE.EXE from M$-DOS 6.22 or M$-Office 4.3,some(just some) programs which requires SHARE.EXE (like M$ Network Client 3)will work, but others(like M$ Word 6.0 and maybe your bbs program) won't.You have two choices: one is to boot into M$-DOS 7.0 or earlier in order to run those programs, the other is to use another tool named FAKESHAR.COM which pretends SHARE.EXE is installed(but since it doesn't really provide the SHARE.EXE function, you'd better load both, otherwise data corruption may occur).I have tested it, and find M$ Word 6.0 works! You can download it from: http://pchitescu.myip.org/software/dos/fakeshar.com If you still have any problem, please tell me.

Reply: (edit)HAHAA ! I have the Good ol'Dos6.22 AND FAT32 support. It never was a problem. what's the story about share.exe anyway ? s--- on DOS. Use win98SE. (and NOT win2k. Win2K has NO good DOS support, same as WinXP, which is a ending line of operating systems i heard. Win98SE still ruulz the block)

Reply: (edit)The only DOS that supports LFN and FAT32 may be ROM-DOS,which can be downloaded from www.datalight.com.But it's shareware.
