My DOS games don't seem to detect the soundcard. Is there some kind of driver I can download maybe? I downloaded a DOS program from the esstech website but when I ran it, it said it was unable to find an ESS based chip or something... Please help.

ess 1868 - good card.
did you look at the chip on the card, or go by what you were told by whoever gave you the card?
sometimes card numbers get mixed up, eg:
got an ess 688, but was told it was 1688
look on the board (olny hold by the big chunk of metal) and look for a chip labeled ESS audiodrive - and look for ESxxxm
what is xxx and ignore the m(odel of xxx)
if it has two chips, please post both chip's numbers.
if you looked at the chip(s) then it could be a slight glitch, my 1 only likes 3 settings, and does ghost-act if the settings are not what it likes.

to do dos mode sound, you need 3 files:
esscfg.exe - this sets up the card to work in dos
esscfg.him - part of esscfg.exe
essvol.exe - to set the volume of the channels on the card
esscfg will add itself to the autoexec.bat file so it will load on start up with your settings, and it will also add the blaster enviroment, so your dos games can play sound.
