If anyone sees this, please I need help

From autoexec.bat I want to copy with xcopy all files from my desktop, and from mydocuments to my e:\backup

Here is the commands I want to use

But I keep getting invalid switch - - /c etc..

xcopy c:\mydocu~1 e:\backup\mydocs /E /C /I /H

and
xcopy c:\windows\desktop e:\backup\mydocs /E /C /I /H

any idea why I get invalid switch on the /c and /I ??

thanks

Jason

When I do xcopy /? command I only get a few options:

/A /M /D:date /P /S /E /V /W
THATS ALL!

When I do xcopy /? from within windows in a command box I get ALOT more commands

So is there no Xcopy version that will do all commands in 'DOS' ??

Thanks

Jason

I use xcopy to do automated backups every week onto USB HDs and I would say you should be using /M /E /I /H /R /Y and not use the /C switch.

Thanks for the reply, but I am not trying to do this in windows dos window but in MSdos reboot from floppy.. I am trying to make an easy backup and recovery floppy for my brother using GHOST and what I want to do is this...
boot with floppy...
copy mydocuments (mydocu~1) to e:\backup\mydocs

copy the desktop (as lot of peopl save files there not just links) to e:\backup\desktop

then run the GHOST program and recover the C: drive back from a archived copy made with GHOST and stored on e:\ghost\back_up.gho

but for some reason (that I do not know) I only have limited switched with the xcopy command, maybe because it is in true DOS ??

so I think what I have to do.. is

attrib c:\mydocu~1\*.* -h -s /s
and
attrib c:\windows\desktop\*.* -h -s /s

these are just in case any hidden files etc.

then do the xcopy c:\mydocu~1 e:\backup\mydocs\ /e (as I,C,H,R, and Y not allowed)

and
xcopy c:\windows\desktop e:\backup\desktop\ /e

what you think??

I also want this floppy to have an option in the bat file so he can run GHOST and make a new backup of the C: drive...

will work I will overcome these odds!

Since the /c is not available in DOS, I guess you need a 3rd prty xcopy.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
