Bootable CD's are known to work better if you use a diskette or floppy to make the image that has the Win 9x with fat 32 or more recent system files on it. Are you using the same partition system on both units like fat 32 or HPFS only on C drive? Some XP systems don't use fat 32 anymore: you would not be able to access HPFS with FAT 32 boot disk. Good luck.

HPFS replaced fat partitions on OS/2 and NTFS allows big HD's running Windows XP without the need for fat 32 partitions.

well, all my partitions/HD are fat32. its just that when boot with the cd on my laptop and i press the option to load drive image from cd to ram it gives me the "replace invalid disk...." error
but when i do the same thing on my PC it works just fine.
i think it might be that my ram is shared with my video card? but not sure
thanks guys any other suggestions would be grateful

CD-ROM drive on your portable is probably unable to recognize the standard or book used on the CDR. The CD-ROM bios and electronic circuitry may be at fault here but there is probably no solution. If you know a friend with a laptop, ask for a simple boot test. Good luck.

Summary: Yes you can, but because CD is read only, you have to make sure your Temp and, so on, are on a RAM DisK or a networked drive. The process of making the disk isn't too hard. You'll need to install DR-D...
