Comment:

I recently bought a computer online and when I got it, it was reformatted to the original setting because they could not sell me the rights to the operating system. I was going to install DOS by disk then Win95 by disk. I went to put in disk #1 of DOS 6.22 into the disk drive and I get:
Invalid system disk
Insert disk and strike key when ready

I need to put an operating system on this thing! I have no idea what the former DOS system was or the former operating system. This contains ONLY a floppy drive. It is a Thinkpad 760XL. Please help

Kevin

Sounds like the install disk labled disk one is not. All of the other disks in a DOS install set are not bootable. If you download this set maybe you got the disks mixed up when you labled them.

Or, your boot sequence calls for the C: drive before the A: and there is no system on C: If so, change the BIOS boot sequence.

I have invalid system disk error of course! I formatted the hard drive and then rebooted the system, but it wont even let me into the BIOS to check the boot sequence (I've already tried multiple WIN98 boot disks).

I'm not sure what the problem is.

We reformatted my son's computer . We forgot to get a boot disk off of his computer but made one off of his sisters. She has a 166mhz and he has a 500mhz. It gets to the floppy then reads for a second and comes up with an invalid system disk replace with another disk.

Is the floppy fully seated? (Led on front of drive should come on at start up) If not, open the keyboard and press the floppy drive down onto the mainboard and recheck. Press the F1 key while starting up and check the boot sequence in the cmos settings. The floppy drive (FD1) should be included in the boot sequence. If you do not have a boot disk, make one from another system. Good Luck..

I also have an ibm purchased over the internet. It is an x22 and comes up with the 'invalid system disk' message.

I know I have to purchase a separate cd drive but (excuse my ignorance, if it's glaringly obvious)if this message is showing, does it mean that dos is already installed? If not, and I would like to download dos from k. semler's site, above how do I actually do that?

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks
