It would seem that line 17 of your config.sys (on a bootdisk?) is trying to load ASPI8U2.SYS as the real mode (DOS) CD driver.
Either it's not at the location referenced by the config.sys or the file is damaged - (missing or corrupted)

Some bootdisks create a ramdisk using the first available letter - in this case D: - which would bump your CD drive letter to E:

Check your config.sys, in particular line 17 and also check to where ASPI8U2.SYS actually is.

You could post config.sys here if you like.

Ok - well, on your line 17:

DOD=HIGH,UMB should be

DOS=HIGH,UMB

Took a look at a standard 98 boot floppy - did you copy and paste yours, or did you just type it in? Because then, the abovementioned line would likely be a typo.

On my floppy, line 17 is (not coincidently)

device=aspi8u2.sys

Now, I don't work with 98 bootdisks very often - but that line references the aspi8u2.sys CD driver (that is normally on the floppy).

Is there a file aspi8u2.sys (40 Kb) on the bootdisk?

You are right.It was a typo.It read DOS not DOD.The file aspi8u2.sys is ont the disk but not on line 17.Anyway I replaced the boot disk and did not get any error message like the one I describe before.But I still can not get to the E Drive.It seems that my Cd-rom is bad.Will replace it and go from there.Thanks.

Ok - the config.sys you'd posted (typo aside) was missing some initial lines that setup the menuing feature.

Seems odd that line 17 was also the one to reference aspi8u2.sys - perhaps it was corrupt.

If you're using a downloaded bootdisk, CD assignment is not necessarily going to be E:

Good luck & post back with any progress or issues.
