I am trying to enter Bios to scanreg to try to get rid of a fatal exception od at 0028:cf171abc with a good start up disk. When I power up and enter bios and get to A:/ and then try to enter c and then enter I get CDR101 not ready reading drive E abort,retry,fail I am not very computor smart so keep it simple as possible thanks

cdr101 means that you don't have the correct cdrom driver loaded (or loaded at all... doesn't seem to be your case if you don't get an "invalid drive specification" when accessing E:), the cdrom lens is dirty and can't read the disc, there is no disc in the cdrom drive, the cdrom drive is defective, or the cdrom disc is defective.

Are you trying to go into you BIOS or are you trying to boot to a boot disk?

Summary: sam, people are trying to help here without having enough info... you'd better give us some feedback if you don't want a stupid misunderstanding to ruin your pc. YOU PROBABLY DON'T NEED A BIOS UPDATE ...
