CPU/Ram: P4:700mhz/256mb sd

when i type edit command in my ms-dos mode; i get an error message Bad command or file name. i get the same error message when i open ms-dos. Iam getting this may be after setting path for java. Iam not able to solve this problem. Can any one help me to open an editor in dos.

Sounds like you chanaged/messed up the PATH statement, so that it no longer includes the correct Path to the C:\DOS directory.

PATH C:\DOS;C:\;C:\java

this had been tickling my pickle for awhile. how do you add to the path. like have another directory to look in.

Remember edit.com won't work without qbasic.exe. So if the path doesn't point to the dos directory, no edit.

In Jack's example above you would add to the path by typing

;c:\whatever after the word java

My path statement looks like this:

C:\windows;c:\dos;c:\pkutil;c:\qpro;c:\ps;%PATH%

Well, this depends on what version of edit.com you are talking about. If it's the one from MS-DOS 7.x, then qbasic.com is not necessary at all.

Just set:
C:\> set path=%path%; c:\windows;c:\dos;etc;etc..
