I downloaded the DUSE USB DOS driver
from www.pocketech.net. I've got the
older 4.2 version and the new 4.4 version.I thought it might allow me to access
the partitions on my USB external hard
drive from DOS. I don't mean the MS-DOS
window you can open after booting up
Windows. I'm talking about selecting
"command prompt" from the Start Menu
before Windows starts up. Usually
holding down the ctrl key will bring up
the Start Menu. This is the only way
to enter DOS without Windows interfering.I tried puting the necessary command
lines in the config.sys file as recommended
in the PDF guide that comes with the
driver. When I rebooted Win98SE had a
nervous collapse. All sorts of messages
popped up warning me that the driver
I had loaded would have a significant
effect on my operating system. I have
to admit, I didn't bother trying to
discover what these effects might be.
Instead, I followed the instructions
in the PDF guide and loaded the driver
directly from command prompt.C:\> C:\DUSE\DUSELDR.COM C:\DUSE\DUSE.exe
VERBOSE XFER=64 NOCDThe driver loaded and displayed following
info:DUSE version 4.4 Build 110 Release (General)
DOS USB Stack Driver with USB Storage Extensions
Copyright Cypress Semiconductor, 2000-2002When I tried to access any of the external
drive partitions all I got was the usual
"incorrect parameter" garbage. Even
though the driver appears to be loading
successfully it's not recognizing my
external USB hard drive. What else can I do that I have not done
already?Rich

You may want to try one of the other drivers from my site. I have a whole page dedicated to USB drivers for DOS.

Good luck.
