Install MS-DOS 6.2 FIRST onto machine followed by Windows 95. Windows 95 Setup will create a Dual Boot system. To control and select which OS to start with. Obtain and install TweakUI (Part of PowerToys) and select start with Menu Option.

Install DOS, then Win95. When Win95 boots up, go to the MsDOS prompt on the Start menu, then type:
cd\
attrib -s -h -r msdos.sys
edit msdos.sys

Add or change the following lines under [OPTIONS]:
Bootmulti=1
Bootmenu=1

Now exit the editor saving changes and type:
attrib +s +h +r msdos.sys
exit

Next time the computer is rebooted, you should get the boot menu, and Previos Version of MSDOS should be one of the choices on the menu. Provided Win95 setup left MSDOS intact, everything should work fine.

The best way:
create 2 primary partitions on you HD. Install Win9X on one of them. Then make the other partition active and install DOS on that one.
The current (active) partion determines which OS you start with.
Easy does it!
