I have noticed that when I go into DOS mode
when I start my PC (Win95b), and type
"mem/c/p" I'll see that one of the items
listed is Dblspace, which is taking up
about 100KB of conventional memory. If I
choose "step-by-step confirmation", instead
of "Command prompt only", I can press 'n'
when it asks to load the Doublespace
driver. When I do that, it says "Drivespace
not loaded. You will not have access to
your compressed drives." But I don't have
any compressed drives! I don't know why
this is loading, when it doesn't need to be
there. Is there anyway to keep it from
loading, besides "step-by-step
confirmation"?Side note: This site looks most wonderful
in the Arachne DOS Web Browser...

Did windows create a pif file for Arachne?
If so have a look at the properties of the pif.
Go to programs-advanced
Have a look in the config.sys entry for doublespace and delete it.
Hope this helps

Umm... Why look for an arachne pif? There isn't one because I was in DOS mode. And there isn't anything about drivspace or doublespace in the config.sys file.

Do this from a dos prompt:
attrib -s -h -r drvspace.bin
del drvspace.binPoof.. No more drivespace loaded.
I am not sure about the doublespace driver... I havent used MS-DOS 6 in a while. The filename is probably dblspace.sys or dblspace.bin. Delete it using the same method for drvspace.bin.

In reply becauce in the pif there is an option to start the program in Dos mode -in the advanced settings.
So you can start your Dos proggy in windows and it will boot up in Dos. when you exit the Dos proggy it will resart windows. Simple as that.

drvspace.bin and/or dblspace.bin are not loaded in config.sys, the are loaded by io.sys (don't edit) before the registry is processed, as michael noted, deleting these .bin files would remove the doublespace / drivespace driver from existance.

Took me a while to get back, but I deleted both drvspace.bin and dblspace.bin, and it works great! Freeed up over 100KB of conventional memory for when I am just using DOS mode. Thanks!
