Under Win95 DOS my ASUS CD-ROM drive has a drive letter and can read regular CD's OK. However, when I put in a CD that was burned with a writer I can only get a dir listing for the root of the CD-R disk and that is it. I can't copy, execute, or open any files from the CD-R. The disks are readable in other drives, and the ASUS drive was able to read the same CD-R's when installed under Win95. Is there something I can do to access these disks from DOS?

Pending drive specific suggestions from Asus, can only offer some things to try.
Mounting diferent driver in config.sys may help. Several candidate *.sys on Win98 boot disk.
Monkey with MSCDEX line in autoexec.bat. Stat with /v switch to return some onfo about drive. Adding memory buffers may help; with say, /m:12 switch.
'course, lastdrive=z may fix.

Perhaps somewhere in these links?

thanks, Laurence, for all the URL's. the one I could not get to work, " www.os.rim.or.jp/~gigo/bootcd/index_e.html" but thanks for all the rest!!!

DOS will only read ISO CD/Rs i.e. ones that are closed. If you use Open session or 'Julet' which means you can go back and write to unused sectors, you will have problems. Check with your CD/R user guide how to create ISO Single Session.

my cd-writer dont read any type of cd's and when it attempt to read a disk it halt the computer.why wont it read my cd's
