I tried installing Win98 on a DOS machine. It kept telling me "Packed files are corrupt" when I run set-up from the CDROM.

Are you using an orginal Microsoft windows cd?
If not, you are using a copy and it probably is no good, because MS doctor their cds so they cannot be easily copied without a hard struggle.
Good luck - keep us posted.

You have to boot your computer using a Windows98 boot disk. The boot disk will load all the software needed to run setup from the CD. If you're booting your computer using an older version of DOS or Windows on the hard drive, that's the problem.

Mike, you're full of beans. Microshaft does NOT make their cd's hard to copy, I copied several of my 98 discs so I can carry around a good copy without banging up the original.
