I accidentaly crashed my 6.2 five months ago and I didn't have the disks for it, so I had to upload 5.0. Recently I came into a set of the 6.2 installation disks- but it won't let me use them because it recognîzes that I already have an OS. I either need the upgrade disks ør a way to fool my system. I manually installed it, expanded every file by hand, but it won't recognize 6.2. Help? I have win3.1, btw....

Well you could reformat the c: drive, then install 6.22. Also, to try and "fool" it you could try and remove the system files (command.com and the 2 hidden system files) from the disk, and then boot to a 6.22 boot disk then install the new version.

All you need to do is use a the Dos 6.2 bootdisk. (or one from bootdisk.com)

Select F3(exit)

At the A:\ prompt type sys c:

Wait for the Dos system files to be written to the hdd.

Restart the pc and Dos 6.2 should take.

If you boot your PC from a MS-DOS 6.2 'Full' Install Set. It will tell you that you have a earler version of DOS installed. BUT if you follow the prompts it will also give you the option to replace it! Try it...

Try hiding the “dos” directory and then install your Dos6.22. I had bought a Windows 98 SE full and it would not let me install Windows 98SE on a Windows 95B machine. It says; “There are already an operating system on this system. Setup will now abort” or something like that and setup would of course abort automatically. So I tried hiding the “Windows” directory and ran setup again, it worked. It actually installed Windows 98SE over top of Windows 95B. My machine is now running Windows 98SE and did not have any problem with it.
These instruction or commands are confusing for first timer, so read carefully and remember that I am not responsible.
At C:\> prompt type ATTRIB WINDOWS +H. without the period. This command will hide the “DOS” folder.
You could use Mike’s advice in response number 2 as an addition to this one.
